Al-madd al-laazim hafree muthaqal (heavy letter based necessary prolongation) only occurs in one form (in the Quran). It is where one of the letters (at the opening of a surah) is pronounced using three sounds, where the middle sound is a harf madd and the last sound is merged with the beginning sound of the next letter.
In this blog post, we will delve into the importance of Madd Lazim and how it enhances our Quranic recitation. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced student, understanding this concept will undoubtedly elevate your relationship with the divine words that guide you on your path.
Madd Al-Laazim-Kalima-i Muthaqqal (Heavy word) occurs when the letter of Madd is followed by a shaddah. Madd Al-Laazim-Kalima-i Mukhaffaf happens when the reason for madd is not in the form of shaddah but in the form of sukoon. There is only one case in the entire Qur’an which is in Surah Al-Yûnus verses 51 and 91.
Madd refers to the elongation of vowel sounds in Arabic, crucial for Quranic recitation. It includes Madd Asli (natural) and Madd Far’i (secondary), which further divides into categories like Madd Lazim, Madd Jaiz, Madd Mutasil, and Madd Muntasir, each with specific rules for proper pronunciation.
Al-madd al-laazim al-kalimee al-muthaqal (heavy word based necessary prolongation) occurs in words that have a laazim saakin letter (where the letter has sukoon as part of the original make up of the word) after a harf madd. This sukoon is a result of a shaddah.
If a letter of Madd is followed by an original Sukoon (not due to stopping) which is present in the same word, the reciter should prolong the Madd 6 Harakas. There is only one word in the Qur'an with this type of Madd.
